Thanksgiving Feast = Nap Time!

Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday to spend time with the ones we love, express the many things we are all thankful, and consume a lot of food.

I want to challenge you, and myself, to take care of your body this Thanksgiving season. Here are a few ways we can not overload ourselves tomorrow:

  • If you see many things that you know you will want to eat, or try for the first time, keep your portions small. Try one spoon full for each food item.
  • Drink water with your meal instead of soft drinks or alcohol.
  • Try not to feel pressured into eating dessert just because others are doing it.
  • If you want dessert, eat it with your meal and not after. That way, you aren't consuming way more than the button on your pants can handle.
  • Try to keep the conversation minimal while eating so you will avoid automated fork-in-mouth syndrome.
Best of all, have fun with this challenge. Try to make this Thanksgiving the healthiest one yet. Make it a game. See how healthy you can be tomorrow. Don't overload your body. It might seem wonderful at the time to eat all the food you want, but what do you think causes the afternoon nap? An overload of fat, carbs, and sugar. The reason we tend to feel sleepy afterward is because our bodies can't handle the amount of calories we just forced it to consumed. So it let's us know it can't handle it by shutting down.

So, eat to your health, make memories with your family, and be Thankful for the body that God gave you. Treat it well :-)

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
