First Thing's First

So you have a desire to be healthier? To look leaner? To build muscle? To lose fat? GREAT!! Whatever your goal is, first thing's first. You will need a plan. One of the best things anyone can do in their life is to set goals and achieve them. Here are a few tips on how to properly set your goals so that they may be achieved maximally and...realistically.

  1. Think in short-term. Yeah, we all want instant results...and we also want them...well, INSTANTLY! But, we also have to think realistically. Say you want to lose 5 pounds or 100 pounds. It is possible depending on where you are at right now. The best way to set goals is to think in terms of months, weeks, days, even down to hours. Start small and climb to the top. You'll be marking those goals off your list and it will keep you motivated along the way.
  2. Think before you eat. Set a healthy nutrition plan that you can follow diligently each day. Prepare your meals in advance so that you can wave pass that fast food restaurant while you grab your protein bar or fruit...but, don't forget to keep at least one hand on the wheel!
  3. Graze like a horse. Yes, it's true. Horses have the most lean bodies. Why? Well, it's because they eat little by little all day long. When we eat three large meals a day, our glycemic (sugar ) levels spike up and down. Up when you eat that large caloric meal and down a few minutes later when you've realized you ate too much (hence that afternoon crash at work, aka. nap time). Eating three large, unhealthy meals can lead to diabetes because of the spike in glycemic levels. One of the benefits of eating six small meals a day is ... YOU GET TO EAT ALL DAY LONG! Now who doesn't like that? Make sure to get proper nutrition like proteins (meats), complex carbohydrates (veggies), mono and polyunsaturated fats (olive oils, nuts) and water. You should drink water all day long to keep your internal organs functioning properly. Regulating your eating pattern will spike your metabolism and help you lose even more weight!
  4. Create a workout regimen. This is where I come in. Some people can't lose weight on their own and they need an experienced, knowledgeable, professional personal trainer to come up with new exercise routines, to push them harder than they would push themselves, and to be a motivator. Just think of not having to think when you workout. I had a coach for a year and she became my brain. It was the best year of my life.
  5. Finally, scratch your achievements off the list. As you continue on your journey, keep note of your progress and mark those goals you have achieved off the list with a smile!
