Rodney's Story

Ok, so here's the deal. I've always been a pretty big guy. I don't remember a time in school when I wasn't the biggest kid in my class and even in college. I have always been somewhat active. I played basketball, wrestling, and tennis, but I never took things too seriously. Over the course of the past few years, I quit being as active and didn't take care of myself.

In the summer of 2010, I noticed that simple activities were becoming more and more difficult. Walking my dog and even tying my shoes became troublesome. I went to a wedding in August of 2010 and had a blast, but the reception was brutal. I love to "cut a rug" because I have skills...serious dance skills, but I couldn't participate as much as I wanted to because of my size. I decided when I get back home and school starts I would start eating better.

As a teacher I knew that once school started and there was more structure in my life, it would be easier to control my diet. For a month, I watched what I ate. When I stepped on the scale in September 2010, I weighed 420 pounds! I couldn't believe it, and this was after a month of eating healthy. From that point until January 2011, I lost 40lbs on my own...then something crazy happened. I had a mild heart attack. I had pain in my chest, my left arm was hurting, and my jaw was hurting. I had all the signs. The night it happened I took an aspirin and just went on my way for the next week. When I finally went to the doctor, he told me the news. By mid February 2011, I had gone to the hospital twice for two procedures on my heart. Both trips consisted of stents being put in to nullify some blockage that was found. The whole thing was devastating because I am only 34 years old, soon to be 35.

Here's where Sarah Miller, owner of Body Bayou Personal Training, LLC, comes in. Obviously I was extra motivated from a nutritional stand point, but my whole life I had only worked out one way...with heavy weights. I really didn't know where to start. Sarah and I go to church together and when she found out about my heart situation she approached me and wanted to help train me through my weightless journey. So I agreed.

The journey thus far has been absolutely amazing. What Sarah does is finds how unique your body moves by using this one-of-a-kind screening. From there, she puts a plan together to bring out the physical best in you. What's cool is that it also works on your mental and emotional health as well. She puts your workouts in phases, which pushes your body to consistently progress. By keeping the workouts progressive, my goals stay fresh and that's something everyone needs when they're working out. I started working with Sarah near the end of March 2011 and have lost around 60lbs since that time. Which means the grand total of weight loss in just under a year is 100lbs!! Faith has always been a big part of my life and I thank God for Sarah. What she does is incredible and I plan on working with her for as long as I possibly can.
